Before you start to
recycle at home, school or work, make sure you know what is recyclable
in your area. In Cambria County, many commonly discarded items can
be recycled, but there are still those things that can not. Make sure
to teach everyone in your household or office what is recyclable and
what you are planning on taking to the bins. This way, when you arrive
at the bin site, you will only have recyclable material and won't
have to take the "mistakes" back home with you. Please,
do not leave non-recyclable material at the site. This causes a hazard
and an eyesore for everyone else who uses the bin. It's also considered
illegal dumping and is against the law!!
Separate Recyclables
From Trash...
Make sure you know what is recyclable and what is not.
The best way to remember, or to teach a young one, is to put a recycling
bag or bin next to your most used trash can. Put an example of each
recyclable item in the recycling bin to show what goes in there. Items
that are not already in the bin to be recycled must be thrown away.
Once learned, it will become second nature to separate before tossing
in.
Prepare Recyclables...
Remove the lids and rinse out bottles, jugs, jars and
cans. Flatten
all corrugated cardboard boxes before taking them to the bins.
Place them in a bag or bin until you visit the recycling depot site.
Transport the
Materials...
Being careful to plan your trip to the recycling depot
to coincide with other errands. No need to make a special trip - a
bin site may be on the way!
Remember...WHEN
IN DOUBT, THROW IT OUT.
At
the Drop-Off:
Unload Your
Vehicle...
Being careful not to carry too big a package, take
the recyclables from your vehicle and place them into the proper container.
Recycle the
Right Stuff...
Sort and separate recyclables before leaving the house.
This will save time and assure that the right items go in the right
bins. In winter weather, this will help you to stay warm and toasty!
Recycle or
Reuse Your Plastic Bags...
After emptying all your recyclables from your bags,
place the plastic bags in the bag container sitting next to the drop-off
bins. If the bag is still in good shape, save it and use it again.
Note: This is not a bin for recycling those bags. It is meant only
for the disposal of transport bags and no other trash.
Be Energy Conscious,
Too...
Our depots are located in places that you are likely
to often pass or visit. We did this so that it would be convenient
and so that recyclers would not have to drive long distances (expending
time, money, and fossil fuels). The best recyclers plan their trips
so that several errands can be taken care of on the way to or from
the recycling depot!
