Waste Oil

EZ Navigator - Proper Disposal Main >>> Oil

Waste oil is hazardous to the environment. Be very careful when changing your oil or working with the oil not to spill it onto the ground. Even if it is washed away, it will not mix with water and will pollute the watershed - having negative effects on plants and animals that it comes in contact with.

When working with waste oil:

  • Make sure to put a drip pan under the oil pan when changing oil.
  • Soak up any spills with saw dust, kitty litter, or sand.
  • NEVER dump down the drain or sewer.

To dispose of used oil:

  • Take the oil and filter to an oil recycling center. Local garages that perform oil changes usually accept these items.
  • Automotive stores like Advanced Auto accept used motor oil and filters.
  • In Johnstown, contact the Public Works Department at 533-2061.
  • Some smaller auto shops use oil in their furnaces to heat for the winter. Contact your neighborhood garage to see if they take the oil.
    • In Northern Cambria, contact Al's Tire at 948-7880
      • If you are a garage that accepts oil and would like to be listed, e-mail us here!
